8th Annual Empty Bowls
The Van Buren High School Art Club is sponsoring its 8th Annual Empty Bowls event, with the help of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America student organization. Empty Bowls is an international effort to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity. Empty Bowls is a great way to support our youth through art, food, and community. All money raised from ticket sales will go to the “Meals for Kids” backpack program for students in the River Valley through the Community Services Clearinghouse. “Meals for Kids” provides weekend meals for kids who experience food insecurity.
For the ticket price, guests are invited to choose a handmade ceramic bowl (made by VBHS students and guest artists) and partake in a symbolic dinner of soup and bread from their special bowl. After dinner, student volunteers will wash guests’ bowls so that they may be taken home as a reminder of the “empty bowls” in our community and throughout the world. FCCLA assists the evening of the event and hold a canned food drive to provide the ingredients for the dinner, which means more money goes directly to the Clearinghouse. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased the night of the event.
