Opening Reception for May Exhibition of the Ozark Pastel Society
It is with great pleasure and anticipation that the Center For Art & Education announces the May Exhibition, Stories of Light. This dynamic exhibition will feature artists from the Ozark Pastel Society, a group of artists based in Northwest Arkansas with 33 active members from Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding states.
The Ozark Pastel Society comes together four times a year to share ideas, techniques, and to promote the soft pastel medium. Soft pastels are a form of almost pure pigment used since the Renaissance. Because of the rich pigment, pastel paintings tend to be bold in color with vibrant light and enticing energy. Stories of Light will be no exception. Members of this group find inspiration in nature, animals and pets, people, and the beauty in the world around them.
Many pastel artists are highly accomplished in creating beautiful light and shadows in their work. They will stun you with interpretations of warm summer days, light reflecting off water, and cool forest pathways. Light and shadow so convincing, you will feel like you could step into their created world. Others will bring a more impressionistic approach but always vibrant color and exciting mark making.
Pastel is a medium unlike any other. This incredible fine art will bring light, vibrancy and color to both galleries in an incredible exhibition. Over 20 pastel artists will be represented in this exhibition including; Charles Peer, Julie Mayser, Judy Howard, Margi Tucker, Cheryl Netherton, Jeanette Foreman, Suzanne King and many, many more.
Opening Reception: Sunday, May 7th, 1-4 p.m.
The exhibition runs May 7 through May 27, 2017.
